Q: Locating an Asset

Find your assets using the <a href="https://app.miris.com">Miris Portal</a>. <h2 id="searchandfilterassets">Search and Filter Assets</h2> From the Assets page, use the Search Assets bar to find assets by name or tag. Exporting USD from Blender

Overview

The goal is to produce a single, self-contained USD file with all geometry, materials, and textures using relative paths. The general workflow is:

Open or import your source file
Build the scene (geometry and materials)
Add lights
Set units
Set color management
Export USD

1. Open File

Delete the default Camera, Cube, and Light from the scene.
Import your source asset using one of the methods below.

USD

Go to File → Import → Universal Scene Description (.usd*).

Enable General → ☑ Relative Paths.
Click Import USD.

OBJ

Go to File → Import → Wavefront (.obj).

Make sure the .obj and .mtl files are in the same folder, with textures in a subfolder.
Select your file and import.

FBX

Go to File → Import → FBX (.FBX) and select your file.

2. Build Scene

If you need to create or adjust materials:

Tip: Apply materials only to the meshes that require them.

Open the Shading workspace.
Create a New Material.
Build a node graph: **Ima

Missing USD File

Accepted Answer

Error code: MISSING_USD_FILE

"It looks like there wasn't a USD file in your upload - please make sure that you include a USD, USDZ, USDA or USDC file in the root directory of your upload."

What This Means

Miris could not find a USD file in the root of your uploaded folder. A USD file in the root directory is required — it serves as the entry point for your 3D asset.

Common Causes

The wrong folder was selected during upload — for example, a textures/ or geo/ subfolder was uploaded instead of the parent asset folder that contains the USD file
The USD file was placed inside a subfolder rather than directly in the root of the upload
A .usdz archive was unzipped and the extracted texture folder was uploaded without the USD file that was also inside the archive
The upload contained only texture files, FBX, OBJ, or other non-USD formats
The file extension was not one of the accepted USD variants (.usd, .usdz, .usda, .usdc)

How to Fix It

Check the top level of your upload folder — not any subfolder inside it — for a file ending in .usd, .usda, .usdc, or .usdz
If there's no USD file there, you've likely uploaded the wrong folder. Go up one level in your file browser and upload the parent folder instead
Re-upload the corrected folder

Tip: If you have multiple USD files, only one should be in the root. Additional USD files (such as referenced sub-layers) should be in subdirectories. See [Multiple Root USD F

Multiple Root USD Files

Accepted Answer

Error code: MORE_THAN_ONE_ROOT_USD_FILE

"It looks like there was more than one USD file in the root of the directory that you uploaded. Please ensure there is one USD file in your root directory, and all others must be in subdirectories."

What This Means

Miris found more than one USD file directly in the root of your upload. Only one USD file can exist at the root level — it acts as the single entry point for the asset. Additional USD files must be in subdirectories.

Common Causes

Multiple USD files (e.g., separate layer files or variants) were placed flat in the root rather than in a structured folder hierarchy
Houdini: The USD ROP exports both a main asset.usd and a asset_payload.usd (or asset_geo.usd) into the same output directory when payload export is enabled — both land at the root level
Maya: Enabling "Export as Payload" in the USD Export dialog emits a _payload.usd file alongside the main USD file in the same directory
Omniverse: Stages saved locally from Omniverse can produce a flat structure with stage.usd and one or more sublayer files side-by-side at the root

How to Fix It

Decide which USD file should be your root file — this is typically the top-level scene or assembly file (e.g., asset.usd, not asset_payload.usd)
Move all other USD files into a subfolder (e.g., a payloads/ or layers/ folder inside your root directory)
Update the references inside your root USD file to point to the new l

Unsupported Scene Size

Accepted Answer

Error code: UNSUPPORTED_SCENE_SIZE

"It looks like the scene in your USD file is either too large or too small. For reference, all of the geometry in the scene needs to be larger than 1 cubic cm and smaller than 100 cubic km. Please also verify that your file is using the correct units."

What This Means

The bounding box of your scene's geometry falls outside the range Miris supports. This is most often caused by incorrect unit settings on export rather than geometry that is genuinely too large or too small.

Supported size range: the scene's bounding box must be larger than a 1×1×1 cm cube and smaller than a 100×100×100 km cube.

Common Causes

Too small:

Incorrect unit scale (most common): Miris requires metersPerUnit = 1, meaning 1 USD unit must equal 1 meter. Maya and Houdini both default to centimeters (metersPerUnit = 0.01), so a model exported with default settings will appear 100× smaller than intended — falling below the minimum size threshold. The fix is to rescale the geometry to meters before exporting, not just change the metadata value.
The model represents a very small real-world object (e.g., jewelry, small electronic components) and its real-world dimensions genuinely fall below the minimum — if so, check whether your asset is a good fit for Miris
The model was exported at an unintended scale, resulting in geometry that is effectively near-zero in size
